The faculty is located in the heart downtown Gadarif city, Gadarif state, Eastern Sudan; it has been educating the future physicians and nurses of Sudan and other surrounding countries since establishment in 1997. The founder and first dean of faculty was Prof. Eldirdiri Algaili Salah (1997-2008), who is considered the spiritual father of all faculty members. The co-founder was the late Prof. Abdelmoneim Bashir Elkurdi (vice dean by then). Prof. Osman Sadig Bukhari was the second dean of faculty (2008-2013), whose endeavors led to recognition of faculty by healthcare institutions and different communities inside & outside Sudan. From early start the faculty has been a strong presence in the community and prides itself on educating the leaders of tomorrow in patient care, biomedical research, and medical education.
Meaningful community engagement is increasingly recognized as a hallmark of great academic health sciences institutions. Accordingly the faculty is established principally to be community-engaged institution and to acquire academic greatness from such engagement.
